What Gluten Free Has Done For Me

I hope you’re feeling well.

I’m feeling EXCELLENT!

I thought I felt good before going Gluten FREE but since making the decision a little over two weeks ago I’m feeling even better.

Now feelings can be subjective and so let me give you two quantifiable areas of improvement for me.

First, my hemorrhoids.  OK, this is going to get a little personal.  Last year around this time my family finally convinced me to get a colonoscopy.  The results were my colon was clean as a whistle but ever since my hemorrhoids have been extremely painful.

The doctor blamed it on the medication used to clean out my colon.  I blame the magic wand they stuck up my butt.  Regardless to what caused it I’ve had nothing but trouble in this area since that procedure.

Some days worse than others but every day was an issue.

Second, I have a basal cell site on my lower left hand jaw that I’ve have two operations on.  It has come back after each operation so I’ve been searching for a natural method to keep it in check.

When I introduced Flax Hull Lignans into my diet it help to reduce the size of this area by about half.

But lately it acted up again with an open wound that was not healing properly, which was a concern for me.

Since being Gluten FREE the wound area has healed.  And the actual basal cell site has gotten smaller.  In fact it’s the smallest it has ever been except for when it first showed up on my face.

wheatskySo here’s my thinking.  I’ve been reading the book WHEAT BELLY by Dr. William Davis (it will be one of my recommendations to you.)   Wheat causes inflammation of the lining of your intestinal track.  This inflammation likely carried over to the hemorrhoids once they had been aggravated.

Now there is a lot of surface volume to the intestinal track.  If inflamed then the immune system has to address this.  Which means it has to let go other areas that it could focus on go.  This allows other problem areas, like my basal cell site, to dominate instead of being held in check.

By removing the wheat from my diet and going Gluten FREE I removed an inflammatory source allowing my immune system to stop having to address my intestinal tract and refocus on my face.

Also, due to the genetic engineering that has gone on with wheat it is more than just the gluten.  Wheat has a higher glyemic index than sugar so it enters your blood stream as blood glucose faster and increase your blood sugar higher than 2 tablespoons of pure sugar.

That’s fuel for my basal cells.

Now that I’ve taken away the fuel, and helped my immune system refocus it efforts, I’m seeing the benefits.

Since this newsletter is getting long I’ll share some additional thoughts in two weeks but let me leave you with this one recommendation:WHEAT_BELLYcover

Pick up a copy of WHEAT BELLY by Dr. William Davis.  It’s my first recommendation if you’re considering going Gluten FREE.

However, his book is more than just going Gluten FREE.

It will help you understand how wheat impacts your health in other ways.  And they’re not positive.  Rather they’re fairly negative like:

  1. Messing with your acid / alkaline balance (we’ve talked about this in the past.)
  2. Being a major contributor to advanced glycation end products or AGE factors that lead to a whole host of medical conditions (we’ve talked about this in the past.)
  3. Having a destructive influence on bone and joint health.
  4. Being a significant factor in messing with your blood sugar levels leading to diabetic complications.
  5. Fueling visceral fat that messes with your immune system and a whole host of other bodily functions.
  6. Causing changes in blood / brain chemistry that can lead to addiction and other cognitive issues.

For me this book was an eye opener.  I believe if you read it with an open mind you’ll see wheat in a completely different light.

Next issue I’m going to address AGE as in advanced end products.  They are a leading factor in causing us to age.

I’ll also continue to share some of what I’m learning as I go through this process of eliminating wheat from my diet.  Like hopefully finding a good Gluten FREE pizza crust so I can go back to enjoying pizza without having my blood sugar skyrocket leading to AGEs accumulating in my system.
