Posted by Dan Hammer //
 09/08/2017

Cayenne pepper is more than just a hot spicy herb. According to Dr. Schulze, “If you master only one herb in Cayenne Pepperyour life, master cayenne pepper.”

Cayenne pepper is a medicinal and nutritional herb. Its nutrients include beta carotene (precursor for vitamin A), capsaicin, lutein, amino acids, essential fatty acids, calcium, folate, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, C, and E.

Before I begin our discussion about how important cayenne pepper is to your health, I wanted to list one additional quote. It’s from Dr. Patrick Quillin who served from 1990 to 2000 as the Vice President of Nutrition for Cancer Treatment Centers of America. He is an internationally respected author, lecturer, professor, and consultant in the field of nutrition. His 15 books have sold over 1 million copies and include the best sellers Healing Nutrients and Beating Cancer with Nutrition. Here’s the quote:

“Cayenne pepper – prized for thousands of years for its healing power. Folklore from around the world recounts amazing results using cayenne pepper in simple healing and in baffling health problems. But cayenne pepper is not just a healer from ancient history. Recent clinical studies have been conducted on many of the old-time health applications for this miracle herb. Again and again, the therapeutic value of cayenne pepper has been medically validated.” – Dr. Patrick Quillin from The Healing Power of Cayenne Pepper Read More →

Affordable Health Care in America

Posted by Dan Hammer //

My wife just recently retired from teaching and this transition has caused us to examine affordable health Affordable Health Carecare in America. While my wife was employed by the school district we had an affordable health care plan through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois. And while the premiums and deductibles have gone up over the last several years, most of the increases have been absorbed in contract negotiations between the teachers’ union and the school district.

Now that Sherry’s employment contract is coming to an end we have had to look for some other insurance options.

For Sherry she can move into an affordable health care plan through her pension fund. One that would allow her to continue with the same existing coverage she has with Blue Cross Blue Shield for about $250 per month. Given the current environment that’s a pretty affordable health care plan.

However, to keep me on the plan the monthly cost went to almost $1000 per month. Not so affordable.

Which lead me on a search to find affordable health care coverage for myself. My journey will provide you with some food for thought. Read More →

What is Metabolism?

Posted by Dan Hammer //
 08/01/2017

Just recently I had a good client of mine ask me the question what is metabolism. And the simple what is metabolismanswer I gave him is your body’s ability to process your food and drink for energy. But the real answer to the question what is metabolism is a bit more complex than that.

Here’s a definition of metabolism from Christian Nordqvist,

“Metabolism refers to biochemical processes that occur within any living organism – including humans – to maintain life. These biochemical processes allow people to grow, reproduce, repair damage, and respond to their environment.”

And when you break down this definition there are two component parts. Read More →

Can Artificial Sweeteners Cause Weight Gain?

Posted by Dan Hammer //
 07/22/2017

There has been a long running debate about whether artificial sweeteners cause weight gain. And the Artificial Sweetenersanswer is “YES!”

Not only do they cause weight gain but they also contribute to several other metabolic disorders. These are the findings of the researchers at the University of Manitoba’s George and Fay Yee Centre for Healthcare Innovation. (Try fitting that on a business card.)

They reviewed 37 studies that where done over the last 10 years or more. These studies documented the results from over 400,000 participants who used artificial sweeteners like aspartame, sucralose, and stevioside. They were able to document that artificial sweeteners had a negative impact on:

Metabolism

Gut Microbiome

and Appetite.

Additionally, their review of the literature clearly showed the following: Read More →
