5 Natural Ways to Increase Nitric Oxide

Natural Ways to Increase Nitric Oxide

Today I want to help you understand the top 5 natural ways to increase nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a signaling molecule used throughout your body. A signaling molecule causes something else to occur.

Because of this nitric oxide is critical to your overall health. In fact, you could not live without nitric oxide.

Nitric oxide is used by your immune system, nervous system, and cardiovascular system.

(If you would prefer to view this information in a video format, then please click on my YouTube video below:)

Most of the research around nitric oxide centers on the cardiovascular system. Its primary function is vasodilation. Nitric oxide relaxes the smooth muscles of the blood vessels. This allows them to widen for improved blood flow.

Improved blood flow increases the delivery of oxygen and nutrients while also improving the removal of cellular waste products.

This means that every organ, and health system in your body, can benefit from improved nitric oxide production.

Let me list the 5 natural ways to increase nitric oxide and then we’ll spend some time looking at each:

  • Eat Vegetables High in Nitrates
  • Limit The Use of Mouthwash
  • Use Nitric Oxide Boosting Supplements
  • Increase Your Intake of Antioxidants
  • Increase Your Heart Rate Through Exercise

In your vascular system there are two primary pathways for the creation of nitric oxide. My next video/article will help you understand these pathways. For now they are:

The Nitrate Nitrite Pathway

The Endothelial Pathway

Eating vegetables high in nitrates activates one of the primary pathways for the creation of nitric oxide.

While there are several vegetables high in nitrate, the two best sources are spinach and beet root. Most supplements that use the nitrate nitrite pathway for the creation of nitric oxide will use beet root as their primary ingredient.

Now if you’re going to consume nitrates through your food intake, make sure it is from vegetables and not processed foods like bacon, hot dogs, and cold cuts. These food items contain sodium nitrates, which can be converted to nitric oxide.

However, nitrates can form nitrosamine, which has been linked to several forms of cancer.

Usually this compound is not formed when the nitrates come from vegetables. And the reason why is that most vegetables also contain vitamin C, which acts as an antioxidant to help prevent the formation on this N-nitroso compound.

This brings of to the second natural way to increase nitric oxide production, which is to limit your use of mouthwash. While you might want fresh breath, you need to understand that most mouthwashes destroy the bacteria needed to begin the conversion of nitrates to nitrites that fuel this nitric oxide pathway.

To emphasize this point you need to understand that you cannot produce nitric oxide from nitrate without these key bacteria.

Studies show that mouthwashes kill this oral bacteria for up to 12 hours.

Because nitric oxide is needed for proper insulin use in your body to regulate blood sugar, the use of mouthwash not only effects your nitric oxide levels but can increase your risk for developing type II diabetes.

Now the easiest and fastest way to increase your nitric oxide levels is to use a good nitric oxide supplement.

If you want to obtain the highest increase in nitric oxide, then you want to harness the endothelial pathway.

The endothelium lines all of your cardiovascular system. And it contains a key enzyme called eNOS. These enzymes converts the amino acid L-arginine into nitric oxide. This is the primary pathway for the creation of nitric oxide.

However, the production of nitric oxide by an L-arginine supplement is short lived.

To increase your production on nitric oxide over a longer period of time you must combine the L-arginine with another amino acid called L-citrulline.

If you’re going to use nitric oxide supplements, then be careful in your selection. There are now over 200 supplements in this area. Some are more effective than others.

And the reason why is that there are other key ingredients needed to help you optimize nitric oxide production through the endothelial pathway.

I discuss 6 of these key ingredients in my video on YouTube. Click Here to view this video.

Now the next natural way to increase nitric oxide is to increase your intake of antioxidants. Nitric oxide is an unstable molecule that quickly degrades in your body.

However, you can increase its stability, and slow it breakdown, by consuming key antioxidants like:

  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin E
  • Polyphenols
  • Glutathione

There are several studies showing that greater levels of nitric oxide are produced when the precursors for nitric oxide are combined with antioxidants. This applies to both nitrates and the amino acids L-arginine and L-citrulline.

Click Here for a study that showed a 17% increase in nitric oxide when L-arginine is combined with antioxidants.

This study was done on athletes, which brings us to the last natural way to increase nitric oxide.

This is to increase your heart rate.

Exercise works the best.

And the reason why is that every time your blood pulses across the endothelium, it stimulates the eNOS enzymes to produce a puff of nitric oxide.

Exercise increases your heart rate which then increases the number of times your blood pulses across your endothelium. Resulting in improved nitric oxide levels in your bloodstream.

And, if you combine the exercise, with nutritional supplements that enhance the endothelial pathway, then you can get even better results.

Results that you could not get if you combine exercise with the nitrate nitrite pathway.

To increase your nitric oxide levels for improved blood flow, then these 5 natural ways can help you.
