L-Glutamine and Leaky Gut

Posted by Dan Hammer //
 09/22/2018

Our topic of conversation in today’s blog post is l-glutamine and leaky gut. Can it help to repair a leaky gut? Is it a L-glutamine and Leaky Gutviable option for restoring the lining of your small intestine? And is there any research to demonstrate it’s ability to improve gut health?

As more and more research is being done on the Microbiome, scientist are coming to the conclusion that your gut is the foundation to your overall health and wellness.

And if it’s not the foundation, then it plays a significant factor in both good and bad health.

It’s estimated that our intestinal lining covers approximately 4,000 square feet of surface area. To help put this in perspective Serena Williams just competed in the finals of the US Open. The tennis court she played on is 2106 square feet.

This means that the surface area of your intestinal lining is approximately 2 tennis courts. Read More →

Do You Have a Leaky Gut?

Posted by Dan Hammer //

In today’s blog post we want to address the question: Do you have a leaky gut?Have a Leaky Gut

This is a fairly new term for a medical condition called intestinal permeability. Some doctors, and medical organizations like the Canadian Society of Intestinal Research, believe this is a myth created by “alternative medicine practitioners.”

According to them “most physicians maintain that there is not enough research to prove that it is a legitimate issue.”

Then there is the Harvard Medical School that acknowledges this issue and states:

“. . . there is growing interest to develop medications that may be used in patients to combat the effects of this problem.”

Dr. Marcelo Campos, MD posted on September 22, 2017 an article for the Harvard Medical School. It was titled “Leaky gut: What is it, and what does it mean for you?” Here are two paragraphs from his article: Read More →

Omega 3 Supplements

Posted by Dan Hammer //
 09/08/2018

This blog post will give you an overall understanding of omega 3 supplements and how they can be beneficial to your Omega 3 Supplementshealth.

Most disease is a result of inflammation.

Which means one of the keys to reducing your risk for disease is to effectively reduce your potential for cellular and vascular inflammation.

In my article “Relief From Chronic Inflammation” I recommended the drastic reduction of omega 6 oils from your diet. And to replace them with Omega 3 sources.

Why?

Because omega 6 oils like soybean, canola, sunflower, cottonseed, corn, and vegetable trigger inflammation both in your gut and throughout your body.

Omega 3 oils like Coconut Oil, Avocados, Grass-fed Butter, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and Fish rich in Omega-3s actually help to turn off inflammation.

Due to food choices, most Americans eat a diet that has a 20:1 ration of omega-6 to omega-3 fats, which creates an environments for chronic inflammation. This chronic inflammation then increases a person’s risk for all types of diseases.

This increased risk was pointed out in research conducted at Harvard University were they showed that omega-3 fatty acid deficiency ranked as the sixth highest killer of Americans. Actually claiming approximately 96,000 people per year.

If you want to reverse this deficiency, then you need to consume a diet rich in omega-3 and lean in omega-6 oils.

One of the simplest and most effective ways to do this is to use omega 3 supplements on a daily basis. Read More →

The Real Cause of Heart Disease

Posted by Dan Hammer //
 09/01/2018

Currently there is a lot of confusing information about the real cause of heart disease. If you do a Google search for Real Cause of Heart Disease“the real cause of heart disease” you will find the following two culprits:

  • Dietary Saturated Fats
  • Cholesterol

And a lot of other potential players involved in this devastating disease like salt, stress, alcohol, high blood pressure, diabetes, a family history of heart disease, smoking, and triglycerides.

But are any of them the real cause of heart disease?

Take dietary saturated fats. This lead to a revamping of the American diet to consume less fat and more carbohydrates. With this change in diet there has been an epidemic increase in type 2 diabetes and an explosion in people being overweight and obese.

And heart disease is still the number one cause of death for both men and women worldwide.

Cholesterol also became the target. Statin drugs were introduced to address this cause of heart disease. Yet statistically 70 to 75% of Americans who have a heart attack have normal cholesterol levels.

Which bring us to the main question of this blog post. Read More →

Nutritional Value of Popcorn

Posted by Dan Hammer //
 08/22/2018

I like popcorn. Most of the people that I know also like popcorn. And as I’ve taken to heart the research on vegetablepopcorn oils causing wide spread inflammation throughout the body, I’ve had to readjust my snacking options.

I used to love Fritos and Potato Chips. They were my go to snacks.

But corn oil, canola oil, and vegetable oil are used in the processing of these snacks. Which makes these snack items potential food sources for inflammation.

And while I will occasionally eat them, it’s no longer a daily snack item. Not even a weekly snack item. I’ll have them if I’m at a family party and they’re on the snack table.

So when I saw that popcorn was bad for you I decided to find out why.

And if I could save this snack item so that I didn’t have to give it up.

What I found was pretty interesting. It’s both good and bad. Let’s first get the bad out of the way. Read More →

Atherosclerosis and Osteoporosis Link!

Posted by Dan Hammer //
 08/15/2018

Recent research has shown a direct link between atherosclerosis and osteoporosis.  Much of it centers on Vitamin DAtherosclerosis and Osteoporosis and Vitamin K2 deficiencies and how they affect your endothelial cells.

Now before we examine this link between atherosclerosis and osteoporosis let’s first understand what these words mean.

  • Atherosclerosis involves the calcification of your vascular tissue.

  • Osteoporosis involves the decalcification of bone tissue.

Here is a medical fact that few physicians know, and even fewer in the general population have ever heard about.  As you age your endothelial cells, which line all of your cardiovascular system, can turn into bone cells.  They are known as osteoblasts, which normally regulate bone formation.

This discovery was originally made in 1993.  Since this discovery research has shown a link between atherosclerosis and osteoporosis.  Those with atherosclerosis typically also have weaker, more brittle bone with an increased risk for fracture.  Those with osteoporosis typically exhibit hardening of the arteries or atherosclerotic calcification leading to atherosclerosis.

To date the precise biological mechanisms behind the transformation of endothelial cells into osteoblasts, or bone-forming cells, is not fully understood.  What is understood is the key role Vitamins D3 and K2 play in ensuring that calcium is properly used in bone formation while at the same time preventing the pathological calcification of your arteries.

These two nutrients operate synergistically to combat atherosclerosis and osteoporosis. Read More →
