The Benefits of Protein
01/22/2020

In part one of the benefits of protein I helped you understand the need for protein. How it’s key to all areas of your health. In fact, I gave you 8 direct benefits of protein. And helped answer the question:

How much protein to you need to consume each day?

The answer to that question is one-third to one-half of your body weight depending on whose guidelines you want to use.

The key is to consume your protein in various meals since your body can’t store protein.

This means that you should consume 20 to 30 grams per meal. And the rest of this articles will help you figure out how to do just that.

Protein Shakes

Once of the simplest ways to get your needed protein is with a protein shake. Some people use whey protein. I prefer pea protein isolate since it’s hypoallergenic and doesn’t cause any bloating.

I would not recommend soy protein as it can interfere with key hormones in your body.

Below is an image of my base recipe. As you can see I get 30 grams of protein with this morning meal.

Thiamin:  6% of RDI (Reference Daily Intake)

Vitamin B6:  38% of RDI

Vitamin B12:  9% of RDI

Nutritional Value of Popcorn

Posted by Dan Hammer //
 08/22/2018

I like popcorn. Most of the people that I know also like popcorn. And as I’ve taken to heart the research on vegetablepopcorn oils causing wide spread inflammation throughout the body, I’ve had to readjust my snacking options.

I used to love Fritos and Potato Chips. They were my go to snacks.

But corn oil, canola oil, and vegetable oil are used in the processing of these snacks. Which makes these snack items potential food sources for inflammation.

And while I will occasionally eat them, it’s no longer a daily snack item. Not even a weekly snack item. I’ll have them if I’m at a family party and they’re on the snack table.

So when I saw that popcorn was bad for you I decided to find out why.

And if I could save this snack item so that I didn’t have to give it up.

What I found was pretty interesting. It’s both good and bad. Let’s first get the bad out of the way. Read More →

Posted by Dan Hammer //
 06/15/2017

I just recently came across an excellent article on The 15 Health Benefits of the Mediterranean Diet by Mediterranean Diet Jen Miller. I’ve listed these 15 health benefits below.

As I was reading her post I kept thinking that the Mediterranean Diet is an excellent way to address the 3 E’s and 4 R’s to Gut Health. How this way of life can:

Eliminate Dysbiosis

Eliminate Inflammation

Eliminate Leaky Gut

while helping you

Remove Foods and Factors That Damage Your Gut

Replace With Healing Foods

Repair With Specific Supplements

Rebalance With Prebiotics and Probiotics

The Mediterranean diet is based on the traditional foods that were consumed by ancient populations in Italy and Greece. Over time this diet has been modified. But its core components have remained the same.

And the resulting health benefits make the Western diet look like a death sentence. Read More →

Posted by Dan Hammer //
 09/22/2016

Over the next couple of months I’ll be doing a series of posts on The Microbiome. And the reason why is The Microbiomeemerging science is clearly identifying how significant the microbiome is to your overall health and the prevention of disease.
